Very Much So

Praying every day
That you’ll come back,
Though mainly that
You’re safe.

The way things were left
Was not what we wanted.
Hope you know that.

I wish we could fix
All of the brokenness
But that’s not the
Way of life.

We’re all struggling
In different degrees
But for some very much so.

You have a place
With us always.
It’s not perfect
But it’s here.

We struggle with each other
Because we care.
That’s what you do

With people you love.

Mom to Daughter

You can come home anytime
There’s no shame in that.
Not if you’re in need
And really want our help.

Don’t know what to do.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
But I will continue to pray
Day after day.

I’m still here.
Always will be.
But the rules aren’t
All yours to make.

We are people too.
We feel, we hurt.
But we love you
Want you to know that is forever.

I am distraught.
But that is not yours to fix.
Do what you need to do
Find your own way.

Please please remember
That you always have a place.
Never knew a hurt that cuts so deep
But I’m letting you go.

You know where we are.
Always.

You

Saw Swedish Fish and thought of you
My daughter, one and only.
That used to be your thing.

I want to be where you are right now
If only to be near you.
I want to take your problems away.

You, yes independent.
You, grown and own your own.
You. I miss you.

Would that the earth spin back
And have me see what you needed.
And have tools to help you.

Would that I have cuddled
Tickled you more
Though you said it didn’t cause you to laugh.

Would that I could fix this.
Yet I wait.
Knowing you – independent of me
Are going through this.

Would that you awake tomorrow
Healed, no longer struggling.
Your sweet spirit returned to you.

I love you,

Your mother.

Rest

from Aug 2017 that comes to me today

Let me enter into Your rest Lord
Where thoughts subside at last.
Where peace floods o’er
Like a tide to shore
That doesn’t ebb or wane.

Oh soul wait patiently
It’ll happen yet.
All in God’s own time.
His answer is “yes” to the prayers
In which His will and ours align.

For such longing there’s hope
For His mercy is never late
But appears just on the morn
For our refuge and friend comes rushing in
To calmly silence the storm.

Oh glorious rest may I enter soon
Become lost in the length of His arms
Once there look around
Quite glad to be found
“Safe and secure from all alarms”.

Without Excuse

Are we praying yet
Have we gotten a clue
To what is happening here?

Or are we hedging our bets
That it’ll end soon
As if awakening from a nightmare?

What will it take
For us to get real
And quit trusting in ourselves

That we have the knowledge
The science and technology
To keep us in good health?

When every day
We wake to a world
That is out of our control

When a wreck here
Or a tumor there
Could mean the end of the road.

It’s time already that we turn & pray,
To a God whose Son defeated death
Arising from the grave.

His will is all that matters
So it’s best to get on board
And use this time now to embrace
The Sovereign, Holy Lord.

Sure we don’t know what He’s doing
We don’t know what will be
But trusting in His truth & goodness
We have eternity.

So let go of excuses
Rationalizing things away
When Jesus, the Forgiving One
Calls us now to turn and pray.

Now and Forever

Blessed redeemer
Jesus my Lord
Oh the Great grace
Your love affords!

You are so faithful
So good and so kind
I could never thank You
Enough for my life.

Blessed Redeemer
Jesus my Lord
My heart is Yours
Forever more.

Your tender mercies
Greet me each day
And I cannot help but
Be ever amazed.

Blessed Redeemer
King of my soul
I live for Your glory
Your praise to uphold.

You are my Maker
You are my God
You will not leave me
O Faithful One.

Blessed Redeemer
King of my heart
I live for Your kingdom
Your life to impart.

Wherever I go Lord
Whatever I do
Will I not cease
To live only for You.

Blessed Redeemer
Who died for me
You saved my life
And now I am free.

I live for Your mercies
I live for Your love
Jesus I thank You
For Your precious blood.

Blessed Redeemer
O Friend of Mine
Now and forever
Am I alive!

Keep Us Connected (Livin’ Large)

Lord keep us connected
To the vine, to the vine.
We’ll do our part,
Trust You’re right on time.

May not know where we’re going
But we know who’s in charge.

With Jesus we have everything
Don’t you know we’re livin’ large.
With Jesus we have everything
Don’t you know we’re livin’ large.

So Lord keep us connected
To the vine, to the vine.
Fill us with Your love, Lord,
Let Your glory shine.

Make us into Your branches
As we faithfully abide.

With Jesus we have everything
Don’t you know we’re livin’ large.

Just do what You will Lord
You are in charge.
Just do what You will Lord
You have our hearts.

Faithful Still

Nothing matches the joy
You give
The freedom of heart
To fully live.

Where once I was bereft,
Thought left for dead
You were faithful still.

You answered my flailings
With continued grace
Brought me to the next place

And I’m beyond amazed.

Where I wouldn’t give
You pushed me.
When I wouldn’t listen
You wooed.

I don’t deserve this blessedness
This state of being at peace
Finding that-though I doubted –

You were saving me.

I Love You, Jesus.

Undone

Can this be real?
I ask with a smile.
It feels good now.
Great even
To come out and play.

Is this the product
Of acting on faith?
Sure seems that way.
Gee, I may try this
Again sometime. Soon.

That unrequited feeling?
I finally understand it.
Why it happens.
I think things
But there’s no return.

There’s no return
With no doing,
No saying –
Remaining silent
When it’s on your heart.

The thing is undone.
Still unchallenged.
Unseen, unheard,
Unappreciated.
Useless.

What’s the point?

Lord give me faith
To go again
At any moment.
Without hesitation
Put my heart out there.

Sure it’s shaky ground
At first.
But requited love,
Love You return,
Is worth it in spades.

In Surrender

If we could abide in Your arms
Go each day without one sin
Then we would know the sweetest life
Nestled in Your loving hands.

But ours frames are fickle ones
Ones so stubborn too
That we disregard You at every turn
In what we say and do.

To abide is to surrender
Even when we think we have
For the lot of pride runs deep
Requiring mercy’s salve.

Only You can make us clean
And clean and clean again
Yes, we must let You wash our feet
To renew the life within.

So let us come to You, Jesus –
Not to a woman or a man –
To seek dispensation and forgiveness
Finally, the eradication of our sins.
